Of course, the Black Sox never existed, except metaphorically. They were the Chicago White Sox members who became mired in a gambling/game fixing scandal. This ended the career of the players involved, most notably ‘Shoeless’ Joe Jackson, still South Carolina’s most famous baseball personality.
